In our Manifesto, launched last Thursday, we demanded the abolition of Section 21. Evictions are the leading cause of homelessness in the UK. We are fighting with others on the basic principle that everyone has the right to a secure home. Today we welcome the announcement of the Government’s plans to consult on so-called ‘no-fault’ evictions
This is a win for renters through grassroots campaigns. Our hope is that the Government’s consultation will lead to REAL CHANGE.
We share Tenants Union UK‘s concerns about enforcement of the new rules, once established: “Low income tenants claiming Universal Credit will still be vulnerable to evictions, due to delays and missing weeks of housing payments, caused by the unjust and illogical rules put in place by the government.” says Manchester Councillor Ben Clay on behalf of the Tenants Union in the Manchester Evening News today.
