Our patron Dr Erinma Bell says that “Moss side is a good place to be”
“It is a vibrant, multicultural community of diverse communities.
Over the years a lot of work has been done to improve the image of Moss Side and South Central Manchester by people who live and work there. People continue to build community cohesion in solidarity together. #WeStandTogether” – Dr Erinma Bell
Greater Manchester Law Centre is based in Moss Side. We have been welcomed by the community and have been given a free stall at the Caribbean Carnival held in Alexandra Park, by Mike Bisson the organiser, for each of the three years since we opened.
This year the carnival made a special impact by celebrating 70 years of The Empire Windrush, “Windrush Bacchanal”.
We stand in solidarity with those affected by the appalling treatment of the Windrush generation. At our premises in Moss Side, Manchester, we have been receiving dozens of inquiries from our local community worried about their immigration status. Whilst GMLC currently does not offer immigration advice, we offer guidance for those affected (see here) and make direct referrals to Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit.
Working with people in Moss Side we see the amazing work done by many organisations and individuals to improve the community and create a positive life together with the majority of people living and working in Moss Side. We are “fighting together for free access to justice”.
