The North West Probabtion & CAFCASS Unison branch recently agreed to affiliate with the Greater Manchester Law Centre. Their branch secretary, Kev Allsop said that ‘we are pleased to support our comrades at GM law whilst condemning the successive Tory governments that have seen an end to six law centres in Greater Manchester alone and we call upon the wider communities both within and outside Greater Manchester to help establish similar centres.’
Kev also stated that ‘the centre boasts Patrons such as Michael Mansfield QC, John Hendy QC, Robert Lizar, Lord Willy Bach and Bolton-born actress Maxine Peake and will offer free legal advice and representation for people denied it, especially those disproportionately hit by the cuts, women, disabled people, black and minority ethnic communities, in short the most vulnerable members of our communities.
The rallying call of GM law centre Chair John Nicholson “We do not just want to be a law centre, but a campaign for law centres generally, “is a call to us all.’
